I have noticed that several nodes exhibit long delays between when
backup of one filespace ends and the next one starts.
Here is an excerpt from one dsmsched.log file that illustrates the problem:
04/07/2008 21:00:12 --- SCHEDULEREC OBJECT BEGIN F2UX_INC_BKP1
04/07/2008 21:00:00
04/07/2008 21:00:1
Is there a client option set on the server for this node?

Make use of the TSM Accounting records for period averages and reports.

In answer to getting nightly backup volume, I use the following
(AIX/Korn shell) to get both total for the night and individual node's
data. The reason for the loop on a single node is due to some
file-systems being so huge that run a simple "dsmc inc" would kill the
box - so I backup each file-sy
Hello,
Can anyone tell me if there is a way/ query to find the following:
1. total GB currently stored in tape library < == run audit license first,
then 'q audit' , add all the Total storage used
2. average nightly GB that are backed up <== ??
3. average nightly GB that expire <==??
Has anyone received a fix from IBM.
So far I have not found any solutions.
We have contacted IBM, sent dumps, error logs and so far no help.
It has been over a week. It seems this may have surfaced in 5.3 and
was corrected in 5.3.2, not 100% sure. But to be out there with 5.5.0.0

We just discovered a "problem" with the 5.5.x Solaris client and when the
node password is changed on the server.
With the 5.5.0.0-4 client, if the password is changed on the server, the
command line client reconizes the password change, but does not/can not
update the TSM.PWD file and establish a

Thanks for any help, suggestions in advance!

Wanda,
Did you find anyone using this product? I didn't see any responses, but
I am also interested in an HSM solution that doesn't lock us into
server/drive names forever (not to mention that Tivoli's HSM solution
does not and will not support Win2k3 x64 servers).
Thanks,

I would caution against speculating about TSM database cache
algorithms and BUFPoolsize value effects without supporting
evidence. I would not expect its use of database records in memory
to be substantially different than its indexing of records on disk,
where I doubt that there would be a lot o
What version did you last see the problem? I'm interested as I'm about
to put in a new TSM server, and I was contemplating which version to go
to.

Just a warning, don't necessarily go to 1/2 or 1/8th of your total
physical memory..
If your server has 64 GB of memory, 8 GB (1/8th) for BUFPOOLSIZE is
probably too high. I would keep it below 1 GB unless you prove to
yourself with some testing that it is helping speed up the backups or
restores
That's got it. Isn't 'line 0' a bit non-specific though?
Cheers Andy,

My guess is that this is coming from a client option set.
Run the query inclexcl command again, but this time tack on the -detail
option:
dsmc q inclexcl -detail
This will show you the management class name (if specified) for include
statements.

hmm, interesting ...
i would touch an inclexcl.file in /var/adm
and in dsm.sys under this nodes stanza
write down inclexcl /var/adm/inclexcl.file
and try again q inclexcl just to see the reaction
- maybe admin center options sets has some leftovers
sorry, i'm trying here :-)

Hi,
There is no inclexcl file - I checked the include options by 'q inclexcl' from
the client's command line.
And I'm definitely on the correct node.

hi,
couple of questions :
- are you looking at right node/inclexcl file ?
- is your inclexcl file "corrupted", ie: extra LF/CR ?

Hi,
I'm getting this error in a clients dsmerror.log:
Management class 'LOGS' named on include/exclude line 0 does not exist
Q inclexcl from DSMC doesn't show any relevant includes, so where is line 0?
Cheers,
Matthew
