Hi Mark,
Thanks for your comments. I've decided to not go with subfile backups
because (from training late last year) I understood that a 1MB file
could be backed up over many volumes, thus being insanely slow to
restore.
The spike of 120GB isn't a huge problem. Currently, we're only have

I'm surprised Mark didn't at least allude to the SKIPNTPERMISSIONS
option for Windows client.
Hehe. For a reason, to be sure. I have had several customers use that option,
and come to sorely regret it later.

Geoff,
To add to Wanda's point #6 regarding "recoverability in 10 years".
It is relatively simple (but time consuming) to transfer old data to
new media by simply creating a storage pool for that new media and
running a "move data" command. If you upgrade to a new TSM server, it
is also simple
Robert...Thanks for your reply!
The SP level for most of the clients are SP2.

You don't mention the SP level for the W2K3.
People working with outdated docs (here) installed 5.2.x.x level TSM

we know will be refusing to move for one reason or another I want to be

John,
We use Verint Ultra here as well. It is a pain, but it can be managed

Post´s answer basiclly said TSM supports Windows 2008 under the assumption the
agent is installed on every
virtual server. You might like the approach above but I would prefer a more
centralized way to do
backups of virtual servers, ex. like Vmware Consolidated Backup.
