Hi list,
I need to perform a full backup from a MS Exchange Server using TDP for
Exchange. However, I need to do it on a empty tape, outside the regular
scheduled backup operations.
Can I do this from the command line? Is there any parameter that I can use to
specify that the data from this pa
Any reason for doing this? Tape will not be useable without
corresponding DB back-up tape.

Karel

Use a backup set. This creates a tape with data already stored in TSM
which can be exported from the library and kept for as long as you wish.
You don't even need TSM to restore the data from the backup set you
create, only the client software is needed and someway to read the tape.
We do this to
You cannot use a backup set.
They are not supported with "TSM API" data.

You will not need the DB backup for backup sets.

Guys,
I just want to write this backup on an scratch tapehow can I tell TSM do do
this instead of using any tape at the pool and mix this data with data from
other clients?
Thanks

If there's a disk pool in the chain, migrate it to tape.
Update all tapes in the storage pool with a "filling" status to an access of
readonly.
Run the exchange backup.
Check the resulting tape out of the library.
You now have a tape with nothing on it but the Exchnage backup; it may be used
A backupset should do that well. What is it you want that a backupset
will not do? Not clear to me.
It takes all the Active Data for a client and writes it out to whatever
device class you specify. It is a database operation though, not an

As the Admin Guide manual says: "... backup sets can only be used by a
backup-archive client". The B/A client and the API which the TDP uses
are in different processing realms.

Since you are going to send this tape away, I suggest you do the backup to
your regular pool.
Then create an EXPORT tape of that Exchange client. If you specify the

that tape. The tape can be sent away and won't cause issu

Hi list,
How can I keep track of an EXPORT NODE command progress? Meaning, how much data
it has already written to the tape, etc...
I tried "q process", but other than the elapsed time in seconds, nothing
changes...
Mario
Hi,
are you exporting to server or tape? "q progess" should give you some more
information than that (bytes transferred, input volume, number of files)
when exporting to server. If this information is missing, your export might
have some problems. Check "q act" if there are problems.

Tapes are written in different formats on different platforms, so the
answer to your question is "no". You would have to export all of the data
from Windows and import to AIX, not just the database.
No, I'm not from development, but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last

Not doubting the power of the Holiday Inn Express, but in the past I had a
Windows LAN-free client whose tapes were reclaimed by an AIX TSM server, which
would leave me to conclude that AIX somehow managed to read the tapes, even
