Hi Allen,
I think you are not considering what a 'tape library manager' does in
the TSM world. The behavior you discuss is not likely to be useful in
the case the Original Poster was describing.
The key advantage to IRMM is that it presents varying resources in a
seamless manner. In the

Sounds like you have a faulty administrative schedule which needs
some work. Find the one issuing those commands and look it over. If
no schedule, look for administrative sessions during that time, where
the commands could have been issued from an OS environment script or
batch file.
You start 2 cad's. Each pointing to one of the .opt files

Have a question about how TSM can backup open files on Netware boxes. We
did some searching around and the only thing we can find is using the
DYNAMIC setting on the copy group to get a fuzzy backup. Does anyone know
of any other way or perhaps an add on product that works with TSM to

About 15% of my WIndows servers take over 5 hours to backup SYSTEM STATE. The
rest all backup in 2 - 50 minutes. How do I diagnosis what's wrong with the
slow ones.
Picking one as a starting point. It is running WIndows Server
It depends on the Windows client levels. IIRC, there was a recent client
patch that addressed slow systemstate backups.

There is a known TSM problem with system state backups:
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg1IC59312
Should be fixed in the 5.5.2 client, which is available now, you can try
that.
Or, it can be VSS issues.
Open a CMD window, enter:
vssadmin list writers

That link says tsm 5.5. This is a 5.4 client. Does it also have the problem?

Sorry, you're right, 5.4 not mentioned in the docs.
Start with the vssadmin list writers command.
I've also seen this happen when the SQL client was installed, and SQL not at
the appropriate SP4 level. (go figure).
Very hard to tell which of the zillion VSS issues may be affecting you.

Both TSM V6 and IRMM are available for Linux on System z.
I stand corrected. I didn't glean this from the IRMM site.

Since the Mac is a unix-based client, I would expect it to support multiple
server stanzas in the dsm.sys file. Rather than use the -optfile= option,
I would try the -sever= option to point to the server stanza you want to use.
