You will need to use a 3rd party utility to copy (clone) one tape to
another.

I don't know how you are going to use that tape, but you should consider to
create a Backupset.

cloning the tape. It will be pretty useless without a db backup for
instance.

As I see it you have 3 options:
1. Use 3rd party app
2. Use Export node (if you want to use the data in different tsm
installation)
3. Use Backup set (if you want to re import the data at later stage)
Use-case is definitive in which option you pick

polling contacts the server after the start time of a schedule, but still
