For DR purposes, I would like to be able to restore a TSM instance
from one machine to another. With V6, and DB2, this has become a
little harder. I have tried to devise my own process, but I have run
into a permission problem. When I try to start TSM, I get ANR0186E

Richard,
HSM is the architecture that I need. Do you know a place in the documentation
of TSM where it states that restores are done in parallel when using HSM? My
suspicion is that restores are being done in parallel, but they all converge in
the server and after that they are copied from the
I would say restore your secondary machine from a mksysb image of your
initial machine, then MAKE SURE AND ACTIVATE ASYNC I/O because that won't be
restored with the mksysb... then the drm file pretty much works like a
charm.

Had a server Windows 2000 with the 5.3 client loaded. The OS was upgraded to
Windows 2003 SP2 and now I want to upgrade the client to a supported release
for the OS. Control panel add/remove programs and click uninstall of the
client and I get an error dialog that the the operating system is not

Do you keep your uid's gid's consistent across systems?
Could be something along those lines... if tsminst1 has a different uid on

I managed to match them up, but it could still be something along
those lines. I am going to try to restore a mksysb on my test system
and see if that comes up ok, then explore trying to find any
differences. Thanks.

Hello Group,
I would like to know what products other TSM folks are using to back up
laptops and desk tops in their environment? We have a business

We have been using TSM to backup laptops and workstations for years, and
currently backup around 2-3000 of them. Encryption may or may not be a problem
depending on what you are using and how you are using it. Full-disk encryption
(FDE) can work well with TSM, for example. Encryption
We use both TSM and Avamar to backup Wintel and Winamd end user systems. TSM
is used for the critical systems and Avamar for all others. TSM is mostly
for servers.
Avamar seems to be working fine in its 3rd month here. You may have issues
with how Avamar ages data. In the TSM world the last

for workstations and laptops, I've always been a fan of CDP for files:

especially for mobile workstations that don't have a permanent connection to
the TSM server, that may be the solution you're looking for.
