Hi Josh,

So, I log in as the instance user, run cmd.exe, go to my instance
directory, and run dsmserv.exe (it's in my path).
A separate console window pops up, and immediately closes.
Redirecting doesn't put anything in the file.
If I look closely, I see some output in the fraction of a s
I don't think you told us whether this is a WAN connection or GIGE?
4G is quite a relatively small file for TSM to handle, so looks like connection
issues.

My current server hangs on start, and I can't figure out why.
*wheeze* back in the day, you could run dsmserv.exe from a command prompt
on Windows, and get stdout.
So, I log in as the instance user, run cmd.exe, go
Were you hoping for change in 6.3 because you've submitted an enhancement
request and were led to believe it would happen "soon"? Or were you just
figuring that "someone else" has probably requested this enhancement already?

I know, the lack of capitals is a bit strange, but, you may enter 63 characters

Does anyone know if IBM is ever going to expand the character set
accepted for TSM passwords? I was hoping that would happen in TSM 6.3,
but apparently it still has the same password rules as it has for as
long as I can remember:

It is my personal experience that a backup of a single very large file
that takes too long (hours) will pin the log and not let go until
either the file finishes copying or the backup is cancelled.
Problem is once the log goes past 81% it starts delaying transactions
and everything gets worse.

Richard,
you might be right, I didn't take this simple fact into account.
I just installed 'FireFTP' from Mozilla Firefox and started the download
again. It might take a while until having a result for the extract of the
new downloaded bin file.
Thanks so far,
Rainer

Hello,
This isn't a question as much as it is relaying frustrations with tape
drives, libraries and scsi reservations. (ok, I'm dumping . . .there, I
said it!)

Your posting doesn't say exactly how you downloaded the bin file. Problems
using software downloaded with FTP are commonly due to the download not having
been performed in Binary mode. Given that the bin file has a Feb 28 date, I
would expect it to be in good condition (but nothing i
Hi Charles,
I recently discovered same thing. We are on TSM Server 5.5.5.2. I don't
have an answer yet...
I was able to correlate the TSM Client log with the TSM Server activity
log. See if you can correlate the messages on your client and server
with the same time stamp.
Here is what I see in

Hello:
I need some on advice on how to handle backing up large files, more
specifically, a 4 GB file. I am running a small TSM instance running version

Hi all,
I have downloaded the TSM Server 6.3.1.000 installation file for AIX from
site 'ftp://service.boulder.ibm.com/storage/tivoli-storage-management/' to
upgrade a level 6.3.0.0 test server.
After having scp'ed the file to AIX and invoked by

While the system time has been corrected, the TSM server hasn't noticed.

Hi Tim,
Try to run a audit on the volume and see if it is OK.
