I also had a problem with running tsm scheduler in the background, this is
the command I run
type at now and enter
now type : dsmc sched /dev/null 21 and enter
then ctrl d (to put job in the background)

commitimeout and the idletimeout to a big value...ie 50
At that time the restore completed successfully, now we upgraded aix 5.2 64
