I always ask if any data that transits on the network is encrypted. Usually
it's not. So why would the backups be?. Unlike Netbackup, TSM does not use
tar to write on tapes. It uses its own proprietary method. And without the
TSM database, a TSM tape is worhtlees...

Since you are going directly to tape, why not create a storage pool just for those
backups. You then don't have to run reclamation on it.

I had this problem on a new implementation. Is your tcpserveraddress coded with the
dns name or the ip adress? We chenged it to the ip adress and the problems went away.
There was probably an error somewhere in the vlans but I'm not an ip guru...

On our servers using 9840 tapes, we set it to 40 since the tapes are very fast and we
can do alot in one day. On LTO and DLT its usually 50 since it is very long to
reclaim tapes.

I had installed 4.2.1.15 on Z/OS but ran into a problem with the q assoc command which

After many trials I finally found out what was wrong. My switch was set in QuickLoop
mode and it seems that TSM's driver doesn't like that. After turning it off,

irectories get archived but the files are not after we get the error message.
The actlog on the server doesn't tell me a thing.

What is the syntax of the cleanup archdir command for version 4.1.2 . I have tried the
following : "cleanup archdir 'node_name' fix=yes" and I have parameters missing.
That syntax worked for version 3.1.XX

We are now a good 6-7 months into this project. We have 2 RS/6000 servers
with several NOTES servers on each. Each RS/6000 has just under 1 Tb of

You are right. We had an OS390 server crash a few months ago and that was
the step that was keeping us from going any further. When we finally read
about it in the manual all went fine after that.
