I am getting failures with TSM for VE 7.1.0.0 where it is trying to back up

I have a number of data movers set up with Baclient 7.1.0 and TSM for VE
7.1.0 that are working OK but I wanted to update them to 7.1.1. The main
reason is the many "failures" I get when it does not back up VM "Templates"
(backup of templates is disabled but 7.1.0 still counts these as
"failures")

I had a backup issue with one particular VM (ANS9921E and ANS9919E) which I

Waiting 60 minutes for each VM is causing the schedule to run into the next
days schedule (the job runs for over 24 hours). I have to stop and restart
the service to snap it out of this mode and hope the next backup runs OK.
I just download the TSM for VE 7.1.4.1 update from the open FTP site and
when I run it (it is an exe) it just creates a DATA folder and puts a big
file called "payload" in there. What do I do with that file?

I am running TSM for VE 7.1.4.1 on WIndows 2008 and it has been OK until
about 2 weeks ago. Since then every night the backup job (should be over
100 VM's) just kind of aborts without logging success or failure. The only
errors in the logs are these (which don't appear in any Google searches)

Why do people want to turn it off? I see the log files but they don't seem
to cause any problems. Are they slowing down the backups?

Is anyone else seeing a large increase in VSS problems (maybe since patch
night) primarily on WIndows 2008 non R2 servers? The VSS errors are not
fixed by our usual VSS fixer script or even rebooting. Running VSSADMIN
list writers will show the system writer as always missing on these
servers, an

Looks like the problem is just with Windows 2008 (non R2) both 32 and 64
bit with this update: KB4019276 - Update to add support for TLS 1.1 and
TLS 1.2
Still doing some testing.

I have 8 TSM for VE installations in one of our data centers all running
TSM4VE 7.1.4.0 on windows server 2008R2. One of the servers was a mess
after patching (the rest are OK). When I logged on the CPU's were pegged
and there were hundreds of CMD.EXE processes starting and stopping. I

Our TSM storage servers were all upgraded last year to 7.1.7.2 (before this
new security update came out). Now I am wondering if I should start using
the updated client or not? If the servers stay at 7.1.7.2 for now is
there any harm in using the newer client? I would have to use 7.1.8.0 on

In the past with TSM4VE 7.1.2 we had manually set up our backup schedulers
and we could have different scheduler services point to different vcenter
servers. Now we are getting vcenter 6.5 virtual appliances that need to be
backed up and the docs say we must have at least version 8.1 of TSM4VE to
I have at least two TSM4VE servers (on windows 2008r2 running TSM4VE 7.1.2)
where several servers per night are failing with the message below. The
IBM docs say this happens when someone presses Q twice which is impossible
since these are running as a service. Is there a fix for this? A search

Wait. What??
What version of client do you need for this? Will my storage servers
explode? How many sessions do you need?

While waiting for IBM to respond to my PMR request, I wonder if any of you
have seen an issue like this - Here is our current setup
Multiple Exchange 2013 CU21 servers running TSM Baclient 7.1.0.1 and
TDP/Exchange 7.1.0.1 backing up to TSM Storage server 7.1.7.2 on AIX.
Backups have been very slow
The new version that supports Server 2019 is out and it is about twice as
large as previous verisons. No idea why yet. Here are the fixes

I have a database backup where the DBA just excluded 100 databases (out of
171). To prevent backup "failures" (and trouble tickets) I tried to
exclude them in the command line, but there were 3500 characters just in
the excludes. Windows server 2012R2 can handle over 8000 characters in the
comman
I see there is a new 8.1.8.1 version now on the FTP site, but the name now
has HSM in it instead of BAC ? Is this the same thing just a newer
version? The one called HSM is much smaller. Here are the two links:
