Why bother with an exclude? Simply backup the require
try :
exclude.dir c:\backup*

This is not strictly true.
The *.* will include/exclude all files **with a file extension**.
You should use * to exclude all files, whether they have an extention or
not.
I would use;
Exclude "*"
Include "c:\backup\...\*" 'MCLASS'

I have server 4.3.1 running on AIX4.3 and about 600 clients on PCs.
The task is to backup only documents because of limited space in the tape
library.

so your proposed solution won't work.
There is no easy way to do what you want. If you are really only
