If the dat in the "old" nodes is no longer needed
for any purpose, then yes you can delete it.
First use DELETE FILESPACE to delete the filespaces
and then REMOVE NODE to get rid of the node entry.
This does free up all the backup/archive disk and

Interestingly there is not much point in keeping the
data since to resore would require ebu and an earlier
version of Oracle.
One of the problems I found going to the newer
version, the old backups became useless!
