If the dat in the "old" nodes is no longer needed for any purpose, then yes you can delete it. First use DELETE FILESPACE to delete the filespaces and then REMOVE NODE to get rid of the node entry. This does free up all the backup/archive disk and tape space used by the old data. If you have so
