Use the TSM Archive function for exceptional data retention which does not
constitute regular backups.

hello group,
I have to implement TSM server. The client actual policy is "keep everything
for 2 months and a month copy for a year (standart) and 3 or 5 years fore some

Even unlimited copies/retention wouldn't guarantee this: if someone
deleted a bunch of files on their client drive, then
only dumb question is the one that goes unasked.

Have you read through the Administrator's Guide? It fully details all
aspects of the product, with examples.

Having a tape full with 5% of data on it is not a bad thing, it just means
you need to reclaim that volume.

Hi list,
Where can I find some documented examples of TSM policies for backup and archive
operations ?
I have to create a policy that does not create the situation where you have a tape
with only 5% of real data stored and 95% marked for reclamation.
Thanks.

Hi list,
Can anybody give some advise on how to build a policy that uses minimal
reclamation operations. I want to avoid the situation where there are
several tapes registered as full with only 4% or 5% of real data recorded
in it, the rest is eligible for reclamation.
Does anyone has any documen
recommendations.

Hi O.
1. try to convince your management that there is no point in doing monthly backups.
When was the last time that you successfully restored from one? What was the impact of
that data not being restorable? Management always insist on a ROI argument from you,
insist on one from them.
