But the automated targeting ad group created manually in UI is not under a
smart display campaign, I retrieve this campaign's settings though API, and
campaign's advertising channel subtype is none. That's very confused.

will not be able to use it for a regular display campaign. To create a
non-automated ad group in a smart display campaign, just set that setting to
false instead.

Thank you for reaching out. If you're using a Smart Display Campaign, you can
use the ExplorerAutoOptimizerSetting and set the optIn to true. Please let me
