[AFMUG] To strong of a signal?

What would be a signal that is to strong? -30 for a backhaul. If I have a backhaul at what point should I start turning down the power or should I do it just because? I have an Air Fiber 5 link and it's in the -30s John Babineaux System Administrator REACH

AF can probably handle it, but you're pushing a lot of power into the air for no reason. I'd suggest bringing it down. It will help you and your neighbors. Josh Luthman Office: 937-552-2340 Direct: 937-552-2343 1100 Wayne St Suite 1337 Troy, OH 45373 On Wed, Dec 9, 2015 at 2:32 PM, John Babine

AF5 is very sensitive to power levels. Even changing a single dB of TX power can mean the difference between a fluctuating 6x and a solid 8x. I believe in 3.2 there is now an auto power level feature, but I don't have access to any AF radios currently. On Wed, Dec 9, 2015 at 1:32 PM, John Babinea

I go by the SNR. Once you have enough margin to get full modulation, then any added power is just RF pollution. If your noise floor is -95, and you need 35 dbm SNR to achieve full modulation, then anything stronger than ~~ -60 dbm is just a waste. bp On 12/9/2015 11:32 AM, John Babineaux wr

Ask the manufacturer. There are a lot of licensed band radios that do not like an Rx level stronger than about -34 or -35. With an AF5 you should be thinking about -45 as a good signal. Mid 30s is too strong. You're just being a 5 GHz polluter. On Wed, Dec 9, 2015 at 11:32 AM, John Babineaux < jo
