I have an idea, lets build a technological civilazation based on
semiconductor micro-electronics. Lets then allow a single corporate
concern based on a tiny little island to dominate the entire industry.
And then lets put that island right up next to a collapsing communist
empire that has a history of using expansion to mitigate domestic
issues. Furthermore, lets have the world's main corrupt and failing
super power go "woke" and replace the manly-men in their armed forces
with girly-boys who are only good for target practice, as the
targets... Not to mention wasting all of their money and military
hardware to protect the evil, genocidal, nazi (wtf is a neo nazi? What
is the deal with the neo? either you are nazi or you aren't.) regime in
that stupid eastern european country. By the way, the rusians are
finding the bio-labs where anti-rusian race specific bio weapons were
being developed and the organ harvesting facilities where the children
who had been smuggled out of disaster zones were bing butchered alive...

Seriously tho, the USA does not have a valid war-plan to defend Taiwan
from China and is, instead looking to evacuate around 80,000 people from
the island. =\
What this means for the semiconductor industry is a massive supply
shock. Samsung in Korea is about 5 years behind the state of the art.
intel doesn't have much capacity, and the other players are ten years or
more behind the state of the art. =\
The only thing that could save Taiwan is a collapse of fiat currency on
the global scale which would stop basically all wars but also create
immense challenges for the global population, the lest of which will be
semiconductors.
Just having legacy fabs available doesn't mean that even scaled down
versions of modern designs can be deployed on them without many months
of re-engineering.
While we ARE transitioning into the para-singularity event, the robots
are still nascant or pre-nascant and will be relying heavily on state of
the art semiconductors so this majorly sucks. =|
