You can have any consciousness you want. A frog, a man, a phyco, a molecule all
have some level of decision making / context awareness of the surroundings,
they all experience change. It is the machine that makes one though, not the
other way around ! Not that it's real, of course =)

Morphisms is the way. But you need two data points to get a vector of change.
They do not say if they are morphing there perceptorn to detect new data. Or
morphing the data
and then train a percepton, NN, to detect the new data.
