[Touch-packages] [Bug 2007600] [NEW] Not possible to dismiss/cancel authentication dialog

2023-02-16 Thread Markus Strobl
Public bug reported:

In system settings -> Online accounts I started adding google. During
the authentication it said I needed to approve the sign on with the
youtube app on my mobile device. I don't have the youtube app installed
on my phone and don't want it so I decided to cancel the sign on.

Problem is it is not possible to cancel the sign on to google. There is
no cancel button and if I close the window a new, identical, window
opens up. I also tried to kill it with ctrl-alt-esc and it just opens up
a new window right away.

What I expect: Closing the window should cancel the sign-on attempt and
a new window should not open.

[systemsettings] [Bug 185407] No warning when systemsettings can't write config files

2018-11-16 Thread Markus Strobl
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=185407

Yes, this bug is still active. Just tried the following on 5.14.3:

1) chmod 000 .config/ksmserverrc

2) Opened system settings->startup and shutdown->desktop session

3) 'Confirm logout' was not selected, so I selected it.

4) Press apply

Result: No error message even though config file could not be modified.

2016-07-15 Thread Markus Strobl via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=365716

Bug ID: 365716
Summary: Digital clock display is missing digits
   Product: kdeplasma-addons
   Version: 5.7.1
  Platform: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: General
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: mstro...@yahoo.com

Seems to be triggered by resume-from-suspend. Random digits are missing from
the clock. Sometimes from the time, sometimes from date. Only way to get them
back that I've found is to logout and back in.

Spectacle is not able to take a screenshot of the panel, so I'll attach a phone
pic instead.

Reproducible: Always

See atached screenshot. There's no icon for "HOT". I don't see a need for a new

Re: Evga geforce 730 with nvidia-331 on mint 17.1

2015-07-31 Thread Markus Strobl
According to the NVidia driver page a GT730 requires a later driver,
352.30. This would be found in the nvidia-current package, so
uninstall nvidia-331 and install nvidia-current instead.

You need to check you firmware version:

 sudo hdparm -i /dev/sda | grep FwRev

If you have the latest rev EXT0DB6Q, then you need the fixed kernel
mentioned above.

  [Regression Potential]

   * There is very little regression potential as this change simply
prevents NCQ trim from being used on Samsung 8** drives.

  [Other Info]

   * Commit is upstream.
   * Greatly increasing the timeout for the drives seems to relieve the timeout
errors. This may be due to trimming large numbers of sectors with single
commands. It may be prudent for future upstream to break up large trims into
multiple requests on smaller regions.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1449005] Re: trim does not work with Samsung 840 EVO after firmware update (EXT0DB6Q)

2015-06-19 Thread Markus Strobl

Uwe: No, Windows will not update the SSD firmware by itself. Samsung has
a windows application for updates, but it has to be downloaded from
Samsung and executed.

You really should update the firmware though. I also bought my 840 about
a year ago and before updating the firmware noticed severe performance
degradation and a few corrupted files. Performance according to hdparm
-t /dev/sda was down to 60 MB/s. After the firmware upgrade performance
was restored to 516 MB/s.

  Hi,
after updating Samsung SSD 840 EVO to the latest firmware (EXT0DB6Q) the
fstream command doesn't work anymore. Besides, there are a lot of file system
errors and bad sectors reports. The problem is certainly caused by Samsung's
firmware but I reported it as a bug because in Windows TRIM works normally
after the upgrade. I have attached an image uploaded by a user who is
experiencing the same problem. If you execute the command sudo fstrim / the
console gets stuck. If you add that command in rc.local the boot is
compromised. I really hope this problem could be solved.
  Thanks

  [Regression Potential]

   * There is very little regression potential as this change simply
prevents NCQ trim from being used on Samsung 8** drives.

  [Other Info]

   * Commit is upstream.
   * Greatly increasing the timeout for the drives seems to relieve the timeout
errors. This may be due to trimming large numbers of sectors with single
commands. It may be prudent for future upstream to break up large trims into
multiple requests on smaller regions.

The fix is in kernel 4.0.5 and I can confirm it fixes the problem. Been
running the latest firmware on my EVO 840 SSD for a few days now and
everything looks good.

I do know the dongle can operate in two modes, HID and HCI. Do you know

Maybe you could run a live cd of (k)ubuntu with your keyboard and see

 try
 1)ssh -Y instead of -X
2)make sure server is allowing to forward X connections (sshd_config)
it is often disabled by paranoid sysadmins...

3: Allow the connection on the client side. Easiest way is xhost + which
allows any server to display on your client. Optionally you can restrict what
servers are allowed (see man xhost).

this should not be nessesary when using ssh , and allowing just anyone
displaying stuff on your screen on client requires cautious firewalling -
mind you this allows just like anyone catching keyboard and mouse events.
 (i.e. via using x2x ).

usually connections should originate from localhost , and as long
as console from which ssh has properly configured variables,
and i.e. starting xterm from it (or any other x app) actually works,
 ssh tunnel should work too.

Interesting. Maybe my systems are not configured correctly. I've always had to
do a xhost + to get tunneled X11 to work.

[Bug 569999] Re: Dist upgrade re-installs uninstalled cups in desktop upgrade mode

2010-04-26 Thread Markus Strobl
Are there any other differences between server and desktop mode? If the
only difference is the reinstall of deselected meta packages then I
think that is an OK solution and we can close this bug report.

Maybe it would be good to add some info to the help section for do-
release-upgrade? Currently it just says there is a desktop and server
mode, but gives no info whatsoever what that means.

[Bug 569999] [NEW] Dist upgrade re-installs uninstalled cups

2010-04-25 Thread Markus Strobl
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

I have some computers that will never print anything. For instance, one
is a HTPC. I have uninstalled cups as I have no need for it. Another one
is a netbook with limited disk space.

However, whenever I do a dist upgrade the dist-upgrade tool insists on
re-installing cups complete with dependencies etc. On the HTPC it's an
annoyance, on the netbook it will abort and complain about lack of disk
space so I'll have to find stuff to remove to free up enough spece for
cups to be installed just so I can remove it again.

Upgrade is from Karmic to Lucid. Method of upgrade is do-release-
upgrade -d

It would be good if update-manager detected that cups was not installed
and skipped it for the upgrade.

 Hi!

Can at least anyone of you reproduce the fact that
any modern system with multiple KDE sessions is
doomed to run a screensaver after 10 minutes?

Or is out there in the wide world someone who
is able to get a system with multiple KDE sessions
that is absolutely free of screensavers?

Re: visual resizing and positioning of displays

2010-01-12 Thread Markus Strobl

Sounds like you have an unlucky display. Even without an EDID, your
TV will likely work with the standard HTDV timing modelines (it should
for devices like cable boxes and DVD/BD players). Also note that some
tv's automatically overscan HDMI for some reason, you may have to
adjust the TV itself to remove that.

 Alex

I have seen this on most LCD TV's. Samsung has two settings in their picture
size menu, the regular 16x9 setting will overscan, but the other setting
called just scan will NOT overscan. I'm using just scan with my satellite
box that output 720p over HDMI.

[Bug 459741] Re: [Karmic] akonadiserver: Database process exited unexpectedly during initial connection

2009-10-24 Thread Markus Strobl
Same problem here after upgrading to Karmic. Problem is caused by Jaunty
installing sql 5.0 but not selecting the MySql meta package. Therefore
MySql is not updated to 5.1 during the upgrade to Karmic and Akonadi
fails to start.

Simple selecting the mysql-server package will fix the problem. MySql is
then updated to 5.1 and akonadi works.

I think the proper fix for this bug would be for the Karmic upgrade
manager to ensure the mysql-server meta package has been selected.

BTW, this was the ONLY issue I had with the Karmic upgrade on my eee-pc.
Karmic is great!!! Thanks to all the developers!!!

[Bug 378115] [NEW] Kubuntu Adept crashes if bad repository in sources.list

2009-05-18 Thread Markus Strobl
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: adept

Version: Jaunty

When a bad 3rd party repository is added to adept, it is not able to
recover. For instance, it is common for less experienced users to add a
repository without the preceding deb.

The user is not able to recover from this without manually editing
sources.list. Trying to start adept will just make it crash.

Proper behavior is to inform the user that there is a bad repository
(via a popup warning when adept starts) and ignore that line in
sources.list. The user can then correct it via adept's edit sources.
The bad entry should show highlighted or with a warning icon in the
edit sources window.

This is independent from xf86-video-ati. I suggest you try a newer mesa
version (it looks to me like the error you quote there can only come
from a pre-7.0 mesa version, in fact).

Thanks, Roland. That helped in that I found I had an old parallel
install of googleearth installed that I cleaned out and I also found a
newer 32-bit mesa (the machine is 64-bit). Unfortunately it still
doesn't work. The googleearth screen comes up but when it tries to
render the earth it crashes with this:

In driconf, disable low-impact fallbacks. This will eliminate at least
one of the error messages, and keep it from falling back to software

Can you recommend a media player that is able to use OpenGL? I've tried
mplayer but even on a relatively fast cpu it can't playback the video fast

I'm afraid there's no magic switch :P You can give VLC a shot but it
never worked for me. Unfortunately, HD video and Linux still don't play
along well.

That's not my experience. I've tested most of the possible combinations:
Intel, ATI+fglrx,
ATI+Radeon and closed-source NVidia. Only Intel has the tearing issue.
All the others play
video, including HD-Video, perfectly. BTW, my MediaPC has a cheap dual
core Intel Core 2 @1.8 GHz

The above is using XV, I don't use

the OpenGL overlay as it had some issues.

Yep, that's the one. But the problem is still there. The pauses/freezes are so

X-Server 1.5.0 very sluggish

2008-09-14 Thread Markus Strobl
Hi,

Tried X-Server-1.5.0 yesterday with the Radeon driver. It was extremely
sluggish in that after something was clicked it would take 2-3 seconds
before X did anything. Even hovering over window menus the highlighted
choice trailed behind the mouse pointer.

Scrolling in a Firefox window was normal, but changing tabs had a 2-3
second delay. Minimizing/maximizing windows also had the delay. Typing
in a console window had no delay.

Glxinfo reported DRI was working. Glxgears gave normal results. I tried
both XAA and EXA (no difference in performance).

X logfile had nothing exciting.

This morning I went back to 1.4.2 and everything is back to normal.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Subject: 2.6.27-rc5 radeon kernel module can't load r300_dri.so - help?

Hello,

my glxinfo states libGL error: dlopen /usr/lib64/dri/r300_dri.so failed
(/usr/lib64/dri/r300_dri.so: undefined symbol: _glapi_Dispatch)

I'm running kernel 2.6.27-rc5 with Ubuntu 8.04.1 (kernel 2.6.24-19-generic)
environment. I let load drm and radeon modules from this rc5 kernel at boot.
/dev/dri/card0 is present. I put the line 'Option DRI true' in my
xorg.conf. I get the undefined symbol error as stated.

According to http://dri.freedesktop.org/wiki/DriTroubleshooting I would have to
recompile the most recent libGL in case of undefined symbol errors. Now
dri.freedesktop.org s hyperlink to libGL (some xc project on sourceforge) is
unavailable and I didn't find a mention of libGL in the tree containg the zip
files on a X.org mirror.

Which file(s) do I have to get fixed to get DRI working with my radeon driver?
How would I get libGL? Which files would I have to compile to get a compatible
r300_dri.so? What's the complete corresponding compile command?

I guessed you are the people who know about kernel driver modules, libGL and
DRI. That's why I'm asking here. If I am wrong, forget me, Thank you otherwise!

[Bug 144368] Re: qemu fails to boot a disk image in gutsy

2007-10-24 Thread Markus Strobl
Same problem here. I have a WinXP installation in QEMU that ran
perfectly under feisty. After upgrading to Gutsy, it hangs during boot.

I inserted the WinXP install CD and booted from it. It starts loading
installation files off the CD and then BSOD (page fault).

I reverted QEMU back to 0.8, but it is still very flaky. The WinXP
desktop came up once, but then crashed. After that it crashes (auto-
reboots) during boot.

Forgot to add: I'm running QEMU 0.9 + kernel 2.6.22 on my other PC

QEMU 0.9 related.

seemed the audio channels were back to normal but I couldn't start X as
it said my nvidia kernel module failed to load. So it fixed audio but
broke video?

Turned out that I had to do a sudo depmod -a after booting the new
kernel. Once that was done the nvidia_new kernel module loaded and X
could be started.

So fix is confirmed. Audio (and video) works again with the new release
of the kernel-modules.
