After upgrading from OOo 2.2 to 2.3.1, the standard mechanism for pasting into
either a writer or spreadsheet document no longer functions. To be precise,
using the left mouse button to select text (say from a terminal window) and then
using the middle mouse button to paste into an OO document produces what appear
to be random 8-bit characters instead of the expected text. If one instead uses
the 'Copy' and 'Paste' buttons on the Sun keyboard, the paste produces the
expected result.

One can also use the 'Edit' -> 'Copy' tab and then the 'Paste' tab in the
respective windows to obtain a cut and paste. However, our users complain
bitterly about the awkwardness of these workarounds.

This worked just fine in the previous version of OO. This is on Sun sparc
machines running Solaris 8.
