2006 -------
Using the Database Wizard, 
1.) select the "Open existing database file" option.
2.) use the file browse button to get the open file dialog.
3.) navigate to an Access MDB file (not an odb file!) and select it.
4.) system totally locks up, raster lines on screen, keyboard is also locked up.
only recourse is to power down PC using power switch.

In my opinion, "opening an existing database file" should either:
1.) check for file compatibility and display an error dialog, warning the user
that the file is not the expected format, OR,
2.) filter the files displayed in the open file dialog so only the correct file
types are displayed, OR,
3.) both of the above.
