In OpenOffice 3.1.1 Calc for Linux, I hit Format/Cell, change the type to Text,
click OK, go back and enter numbers I want treated as text, not quantities, like
"8/10".  The program instantly converts these entries to dates, e.g. "8/10/10".
 I go back and check the Format/Cell dialog box, and it has reverted to the
default "Number."  So apparently the program is doing 2 things wrong: not saving
the changed formatting, and automatically converting numbers in that format to
dates with noplace to turn off that conversion.  This is intensely annoying, and
preventing me from entering what I need to for work.
