------- Additional comments from garet...@openoffice.org Mon Nov 22 21:02:15 +0000 2010 ------- I have openoffice 3.2 on my home computer and have today (22/11/2010) downloaded ORACLE REPORT BUILDER the latest one (1.2.1 I think) Despite the latest version is is very difficult to build a report of any size with it as:- 1. The fields scroll uncontrolably upwards when moved. 2. There is no simple command to sum a column of numbers in the report (and yes I do expect an easy to use command of this simple function. I have read some of the answers about this and still cannot make it work. 3. As I want to use the same report with varying datasets it would be very helpfull if the report section had sort and filter dialogs boxes just like the query part of base. I really do not want to write the same report twice it is too much like wearing a hairshirt. 4.Lastly I also have openoffice on my work computer with an unidentified report builder on it. This one has different strengths and weaknesses however It does have a toolbox with a sum values command in it (the summmation like a greek E) but it seems to lack header and footer fields - very strange - what is it? My productivity with base is very low. In the last few weeks I have found out the hard way that embedded base is no good, you cannot record a macro on it. (paradox for dos had that twenty years ago!) everything seems more difficult than it should be ,and that BASE seems to be still a work in progess. Is the latest report builder really as cranky as it seems to me? The lack of a macro recorder seems to be a very important omission as using one together with just a few lines of code you can do a great deal very easiy. I would really like an authorititive manual on BASE (A printed book)with every wrinkle of operation in it. The people who given answers on the web are much appreciated but I would like definative answers from those in an position to know. I am sorry this missive does not fit neatly into your pidgeon holes but I rate communication way above system. PS The OPENOFFICE web site is also difficult to use. LASTLY:- CAN ANYONE REASONABLY RECOMMEND BASE TO A BEGINNER? IF SO PLEASE LET ME HEAR YOUR DEFENCE OF BASE! Sorry for the above but I think that I am a reasonable person who has been provoked long enough! With love to the openoffice community!
