This works well for the fields that are native to Writer, but not at all for the fields (ie, citations) that are inserted and managed by the Endnote plugin. In MS Word, fields appear shaded no matter whether they are native to Word or managed by Endnote, and I find this feature highly desirable (as well as consistent). OO Writer should behave in the same way. Otherwise, it is not recognisable whether some piece of text is mere text or an actual citation.
