Below is the summary of the problem: When attempting to use a degree symbol, by using ALT and a numerical code on the number pad, the degree symbol is inserted one character to the right from the cursor. So, basically, we noticed on our version of Writer that if you want to put something like "it's 72* outside" (consider the asterisk a degree symbol), when entering the ALT code next to the 2, it would come out "it's 72 *outside". Not sure if anyone else has noticed this, but it wasn't present in the pre-3.0 version of OpenOffice, from what I understand. Hope this helps!
