Hi,
I am trying 1.9.65 on Mandrake Linux 10.1 and get the same error.
When I try to create a new db, initialy seems ok and does actualy create a file
but then when I click on the 'tables' button, I get a pop-up saying JRE is
defective, I click the OK button then get the error "the connection to the data
source [path...name] could not be established. No java installation could be
found. Please check your installation".

There is a button marked 'more' which gives me two lots of info. firstly
'information' field that says...The connection to the data source
"file:///home/stewart/New%20Database3.odb" could not be established.
and then an 'error' field that gives....SQL Status: S1000
Error code: 1000
No Java installation could be found. Please check your installation!

If I check under [options-openoffice-java] the use java runtime is ticked and
openoffice has found my sun 1.4.2_06.

If I try to simply open a database created as above, this fails in a similar
manner.
