It's very nice to be able to write the outline, and have the formatting applied while you write. The navigator does not achieve this. You cannot write an outline in the navigator. Using the navigator requires you to write everything, then go back and apply formatting. Which aside from being tedious, is backwards. Formatting and structure are highly related, and should be thought of BEFORE you write.
