The workaround in issue 85462 solves the stability problem by not registering them with libfontconfig. When libfontconfig's recommendation for font fallback comes into play there results a problem from this. FC recommends to substitute these app-specific fonts which would not be much of a problem if it wouldn't recommend completely unrelated fonts.
