***initially discussed in [EMAIL PROTECTED], email excerpt follows:***

For users it would make more sense if the dictionaries would be installed to
user's directory, not the system (or app) path. The system path should be for
administrators only and system configuration should not be in user visible UI
(OOo wizards).

This should probably concern all platforms, but I'm interested in Mac OS X. I
guess it should be pretty easy change, as I have verified that putting proper
dictionaries to <user OOo dir>/user/wordbook makes them visible in OOo.

On linux, this directory is ~/.openoffice.org2/user/wordbook
On Mac OS X, it will be: ~/Library/Application
Support/Openoffice.org2/user/wordbook

I got it working manually by moving the italian dictonaries: hyph_it_IT.dic,
it_IT.aff and it_IT.dic from app-dir to user-dir and then creating a properly
modified dictionary.lst in the user-dir. (for howto, see the dictionary.lst in
<.app-dir>/Contents/openoffice.org/share/dict/ooo/ )

************

This also probably solves (or makes easier to solve) the file writing access
problems that some users are experiencing on Mac (i.e. using the wizard does not
work, because user does not have write access to
<.app-dir>/Contents/openoffice.org/share/dict/ooo/)

...

Oh... BTW, is the situation similar with FontOOo? With fontOOo the correct dir
would be <user OOo dir>/user/fonts/
