Hi,
I typed my thesis of more than 90 pages with lots of graphs, tables, math
equations. There is no single day passes without crashing when I want to save
the document. I had the docuemnt cut to five files to speed up the process,
but working with master document is as bad as large files. It crashes many
time when need to save and update. Some times it crashes when updating the
table of content. It remindes me with Windows 95 and how unstable it was. I
tried migrate back to MS Office XP because OOO cannot match MS Word speed, but
it is time-consuming to retype all the math in the document. OOO 1.4 and even
2.0beta does not export math into MS Word in a good manner. I really regret
that I used OOO for such serious job. Some times it takes me long time to re-
edit and fix my document after a crash. It takes a long time to open a large
document and longer time to update a master document.
I have a decent computer with Athlon 1900+ CPU, 256MB of DDR Memory and
Windows XP running on it. The problem with OOO is that it becomes awkward when
it comes to large technical documents. I think speed is crucial determinant of
the future of StarOffice and its clone OOO if it has to compete with other
Office suites especially MS Office.
