After some playing with OOo, I started Firefox 1.0 and tried to open an .odt document. After Firefox had downloaded the file, the firefox window got dark grey and nothing else happened. I had an look at the "about:plugin" page and the OOo plugin appeared correctly in the list, including the .odt mime type. I will attach a screenshot of the grey firefox window.
