If you then click anywhere to the right of the end of the first line, the caret will end up as if it is in the middle (between the base and diacritic) of the first cell (that is, the cell at the end of the first line); you can test this by seeing what happens when you type backspace. On Windows, it is displayed as such; on Linux, it is not.
