2005 -------
I started writing some mathematical documents recently. In the middle of the
project, I discovered that OOo 2.0 had been released, so I upgraded. Before the
upgrade, I'm pretty certain that I had been using OOo 1.1.5, but the problem I
had exists across all version of which I am aware.

The "Mathematical Operators" section of the Special Characters list is missing a
few items. One is the character used for "is an element of." For this
character, I substitute a cyrillic character which the list refers to as "U+404"
-- that character is similar to the element in question.

Another character that is missing is the one used for "is a subset of," which is
like an upper case 'U' lying on its side with a line underneath it.

Also the character for "union," for which I just use a 'U'

"is not less than or equal to" and "is not equivalent to" are two more

There may be other symbols, as well, this isn't meant to be an exhaustive list,
I'm just mentioning the ones I recall offhand.

There are workarounds for characters such as these, but it would be nice to have
them included in the "Mathematical Operators" list.

This issue is also not limited to the word processor: I believe the same Special
Characters list is used by most or all of the components of Open Office.
