------- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Nov 8 00:13:17 +0000 2008 ------- How to reproduce: 1. Be sure the option "Print automatically inserted blank pages" in Tools -> Options -> OOo Writer -> Print -> Other is unset. 2. Open a new text document (File -> New -> Text Document). 3. Insert a manual page break while setting the page number to 1 (Insert -> Manual Break -> Page Break, Style: Default, [X] Change page number, "1"). 4. Insert the field Page Count (Insert -> Fields -> Page Count). Expected behaviour: The field "Page Count" displays the actual amount of physical pages. Seen behaviour: The field "Page Counts" displays the amount of "logical pages". Discussion: When changing the page number via a manual page break from one impair number (right page) to an other impair number (an other right page), e.g. from page #i to page #1, OOo automatically inserts the missing left page with pair number (which can be seen as a "blank page" in the page preview). While this is useful for those using a duplex printer, everyone else can switch this off in Tools -> Options -> OOo Writer -> Print. In that case, OOo won't automatically insert missing left pages with pair number. Thus, when switching off the option "print automatically inserted blank pages", the document created according to the step-by-step description above has actually only 2 physical pages. Yet the field "page count" says it has 3, as if there were a blank page inserted between the two pages with impair number. Typical use cases for this field are a thesis, where you have to hand in X pages (but the page number on the last pages says X-Y=Z, because you restart the page counter Z after Y pages of Table of Contents and so on), or anything else where you have to specify the amount of pages in the document itself (think bibliographic information, or payment based on a per-page basis or something like this). If you use for these documents a simplex printer and thus unset the option "print automatically inserted blank pages", OOo will display a wrong amount of pages in the field "page count". Conclusion: OOo must not count non-existent pages. Proposed solutions: a) Don't count automatically inserted blank pages when the user has switched off the option "print automatically inserted blank pages". *) b) Add an "offset" option to the field "Page count" (like for "Page number"). *) Note there is a similar option in the PDF export dialogue. Reproducible with: OOo 2.4.2 (680m18) B9364 Linux i86 RPM de_DE OOo 3.0.0 (300m9) B9358 Linux i86 RPM de_DE OOo 3.0.0 (300m9) B9358 Windows de_DE --------------------------------------------------------------------- Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
