Just as an update, when I try to use aplay to play a sound, I get this error:

the diff file provided by Takashi, thanks a lot! This did make progress
for me, since before, the i couldn't get the driver to modprobe.

i have an AI-3 connected to the hammerfall's optical in/outs. the converter will
