What is wrong with using a PC ? Use all 8 bits of the parallel port in DMA mode. The make an external circuit which will buffer and then serial clock the 8 bits out. If this is not quick enough, use more parallel ports. It is probably a good idea to use a real time OS, and not linux. Linux current
