I'm installing ALSA for the first time--my intent is to write a PortAudio
implementation for ALSA (www.portaudio.com). However I came across
several problems.
1. Compiling alsa-driver, two .c files failed to compile, complaining
that SOUND_MAJOR was undeclared: the files were hwdep.c and

when i use aplay i get nothing but really loud static,
I type aplay /root/mp3z/* and it starts with an mp3
and says 8000hz mono, how do i get rid of this noise?

afaik aplay doesn't play mp3 files, only wav

I now installed beta 10, and things seemed to work okay. I killed all

I've just bought the new Terratec DMX 6fire soundcard, a PCI-card based
on the Envy24 chipset. The card as such is seen at boot-up, and by Yast2
