Thank you for the asound.state you attached. I tried it, and now I can
hear the background noise - but still no useful sound. Neither PCM
(using alsaplayer with an MP3), nor CD pass-through...
Funny because Alsa 0.5 with 2.4.9 and below used to work like charm for

Ismail,
I had a similar problem with an Intel 815e motherboard. The problem
turned out to be that the chipset would literally "disable" the sound
ability if speakers weren't plugged into the sound connector on the
motherboard. It sounds crazy, but its true and reproducable.
When Alsa was start
Mabey you need to use a mixer (alsamixer, gamix) to set your capture to line1.
Unless that thinkpad has multiple dsp's, line1 isn't going to be a seperate
/dev/dsp?. You probably have only /dev/dsp0.

There must be some device that I can link to, because the Gnome OSS
mixer (GMIX) is able to manipulate the volume on the line, line1 and

control jMAX.
From what I understand, I can use "snd-seq-virmidi", but I have no idea
how to get it to come up in Jazz ... does it need to be activated somehow ?
