You are probably right, Roger. I can't check this solution now, but yesterday,
I have seen that there is a conflict between the driver 0.5.12* and the
0.9.0* : if I do "/etc/init.d/alsa stop", the system give a wrong version of
alsa. I have guessed that the both versions don't use the same dire

I have a serious problem, helpful ALSA folks: I want to run voice over
IP while playing games, and those apps all grab /dev/audio or /dev/dsp
around the neck and refuse concurrent access. Whichever app starts
second blocks when it tries to open() the audio device.
SDL does the kind of mixing I

Thanks for your answer. I have tried to use the latest drivers, libs and
utils, but I get errors with the utils "function snd_ctl_open failed for
default : Sound protocole is not compatible". What is the version of your
drivers ? (remember that I have a MDK8.1).
Thank you

I have an Hitachi Laptop with an ESS1879 sound system on board. I have installed
SuSE Linux 7.3, but I'm having great difficulty in getting the sound support up
and running.
My laptop's BIOS has settable parameters for the chipset representing IRQ, DMA's,

I think there is something wrong with the prefix

IMO this should not be in the quicktoots but should be in the alsa-howto wiki and once
completed should be included on the alsa-howto docbook.

I agree with you Werner, but I can't use the rear speakers with ALSA

Hi,
Is it possible to use 'vkeybd --device alsa' to work with alsa 0.9? I
got the source from the latest debian package, and it seems it only
compiels with older versions of alsa. Is there a new version or a patch
somewhere?
I have alsa 0.9, and I managed to get timidity 2.12.0-pre1 to work
