Hi-
Would anyone who has a working multi-channel configuration for the RME
Hammerfall 9652 (or 9636) be willing to post their config files (in particular,
the .asoundrc), along with an explanation of how exactly to differentiate
devices (SP/DIF, ADAT) and channels (I believe there are 26 availabl

Hi,
I use 'arecord', 'rec', or 'cat /dev/audio' to get some idea about what
is coming in through the mic
but nothing happens. Using alsamixer, I set unmuted and
'R'-Capture mode (somewhat >70). The sound from the mic is directly
passed to the loud speakers. But,
it is not possible to record a

Hello,
I'm having trouble compiling the driver. uname -a reports:
Linux iape-P75 2.2.19 #3 Wed Dec 12 18:10:31 PST 2001 i586 unknown
I'm using the Slackware 8 release, with sound enabled, but with no sound modules
loaded. The sound module target is SB-AWE64.
I did:
./configure --with-isapnp=yes
I am almost finished compiling the alsa-util-0.9beta12 portion of the alsa
sound drivers
and I get this error:
Please help!
configure: error: Sufficiently new version of libasound not found.
I am installing the alsa-0.9beta12 drivers on a straight Red Hat 7.2 install

Check the archives please, people - this one comes up constantly.
The commands you're looking for are "alsactl store" and "alsactl
restore" - man alsactl for details.

Eric,
THANKS a million for your help. I dumped the alsa-driver-0.5.9 drivers and
started working
on the alsa-driver-0.9beta12 drivers. This is EXACTLY why I didn't use the
0.9beta12 drivers
first - I CANNOT AFFORD TO USE A BETA IN A CORPORATE ENVIROMENT - if I had
know that
the 0.9beta12 were not

It seems I got my card working. Thank
goodness.
But each time I reboot my computer, I need to reset
several of my mixer settings. Not all of them, just several of them.
Like the 3D settings and Surround and others. Some are fine (master, cd,
pcm...)
Is there a reason for this? Just

I am battling to install a SP Vibra PCI128 which I think is an es1371
sound chip.
I believe the following command confirms that I have both alsa and my
es1371 correctly installed:
/etc/alsa/modutils# /etc/init.d/alsa start

In addition to this problem I also receive many warnings complaining about
things being redefined in the compat_22.h file, when they have been
previously defined in certain files in the
