I am trying to make my audio CD play through the rear speakers in addition to
the front ones.
In order to do that, is there some way to route audio from the CD to some
"wave input" of some sort?

Hello,
I'm using alsa on a linux from scratch system for my via8233 chipset on
the KT3 Ultra motherboard. I'm using a cvs version of alsa.
The drivers seem to work -- my speakers play, alsa mixer runs, etc. But
no matter what I do I can't get my microphone to make a sound! It's

Hi,
I would appreciate
some advice on how to resolve a problem on sound after upgrading my
SuSE installation from 7.3 to 8.0 and using ALSA drivers
etc.
The problem
generally is that sound on any application (KWINTV, CD player etc.) would play
for only a minute. There i

Check that the playback channels are unmuted -
I believe the sony vaio has the INTEL 8x0 chip for
sound. How when using the latest release of ALSA I
could not get sound (the latest Red Hat 7.3 kernel
sound module makes garbled sound and is really poorly
written).

Following a disk failure I have done a complete reinstall of RH7.2 and
also of alsa 0.9.0rc2. I a seeing the same problem that I have had
for six months now; to wit, I can play mono files with aplay, MIDI
files with timidity and mp3 files with mpg123. However stereo files
appear to play with apl
