Two issues:
1.) I want to get started with ALSA, but I'm having trouble making my
old SoundBlaster 16 work. I'm attempting to test it with "cat english.au

bad state". "english.au" is that now-famous sound file of Linus Torv
I am sending an update to my previous message. Below , you can see the results
of several trials with the alsa drivers I have installed in my system.
Even though the card is supposed to be sb16 compatible the only driver I am
able to load is snb-sb8. All the others: sb16, sbawe and es1879 fail.

Hello all,
I would like to ask if it is possible to get full duplex (for video
conferencing) on a es1879 based sound card with the alsa drivers.
Acording to

, page 54, this sound card should be sb an
Using the source rpm seems easier then a kernel recomplile. I just know what
was said on http://freshrpms.net/docs/alsa/ :) Or compile alsa from source
(there are good instructions on http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/ ).
And with the change of ad1848 to opl3sa2 to get the

Hi,
I have the same problem as J. Scott Amort (see

for his message) with a slightly newer kernel. ALSA 0.9.0rc7 works, but
with 0.9.1 and 0.9.2, I get the following error message when I try to load
the modules:

Ooops! I hadn't installed alsa properly. Now, with the .asoundrc file below, I get the

Hello!
After carefull reading of instalation instructions for my sound card,
I started with recompiling and reconfiguring my kernel. I didnt want to
have any OSS modules in it.
I enabled sound support (soundcore.o).

That means, that i don`t want the alsa-drivers modules seperate, but i
