[Alsa-user] Missing PCM control in alsamixer (intel8x0/RH9)

Last week I had xmms 1.2.7 with the alsa-xmms-0.9.11 plug-in running on RedHat 8. I upgraded to RedHat 9 and rebuilt xmms and the 0.9.4 alsa-{driver,lib,utils}. Now, with with ALSA 0.9 output plugin (libALSA.so) selected in xmms, I can play mp3 audio, but I hear no sound. What's suspicious is that

Thanks for that. I have recompile the kernel with your suggestions. I now get past the make modules section without error. Don't know if this is important since Alsa is not yet installed but there is an "unresolved symbol" message when the kernel boots this time the missing symbol is /lib/modules
