Hi
I am wanting to compile the alsa-drivers for a different kernel. The
story is that I have another operating system on the same PC that runs
off a compact flash. It is running a kernel that does have soundsuport
and I have previously been able to load the sb.o modules to get the
es1869 card
I think it has to do with a patch to pass through AC3 on some sound
cards or something but I haven't found a solution.
I'm going to keep experimenting and hopefully figure out something that
works.

you shouldn;t ahve to revert to software that old just to get sound
working. Also i'd recommend using modprobe instead to insmod. modprobe
seems to be bit more intelligent as module loading.

Hi there
I have managed to finally get the soundcard working I was getting the
error /dev/dsp No such device however it was a bug in the alsa version
that I was using (version 0.9.5 wouldn't compile for me but I finally
had success with alsa-driver-0.5.2.tar.gz)

I only get it with 0.9.5. If I switch back to 0.9.4 it
goes away.
I am using snd-intel8x0

Hello folks,
I run slackware 8.1 on my toshiba dynabook 2140 K45/2SC8 machine.
My sound card is pci ES 1978 Maestro 2E
It seems, it is not listed on the supported driver list by alsa.
Is there anyway I can get this work with alsa.

Thanks for the info - having the audio working (only at 48khz?) with
0.9.0rc6 is better than nothing. It looks like a lot of work was done
on usbaudio.c between rc6 and rc7.. I wonder which of the changes
broke things with the Audiophile.. :(

Hi Takashi,
Thanks for the patch, it worked somehow, but now things get ugly a little
bit further ahead:

Ah, you're right.
I, like you, have Audigy2 Platinum EX and the alsa drivers do not work

Yes, works flawless here through optical out. I tested ac3-avis, DVDs in

Well, then no ALSA module at all is loaded. You need to configure you
modules as described on alsa-project.org (Go to the soundcard matrix:

Ok, that did help. Thanks :)

Hi Takashi,
Thanks for your reply. You're correct, my system has a CMI9739A codec
chip. The odd thing is that with RH8 I'm positive that I did have a PCM
control and that it did affect the volume. Regardless of that, I still
have no audio. Do I need to rebuild the alsa driver ? If anyone has

After much testing i'd say firmware is not really the issue with this card,
especially for the audio side of it. The midi ports now work perfectly with
a warm boot from windows using the latest ALSA drivers. The problem has
become the audio side, as ben said you get static. Before the midi ports

check your ac97 codec chip. if it's a CMI9xxx chip, there is no PCM
volume control in fact.
