Thanks. dxs_support=3 fixes the noise with my ECS K7VTA3 5.0.

AFAIK, if it's VIA chipset, then you should use via82xx module, if
intelchipset then intel810x module. Sound device configureator (shipped
with alsa) should autodetect it and install needed drivers. Then unmute

I've selected the i8x0 chip in the kernel config.
If I build every relevant option into the kernel (not as a module), I can

I'm using Redhat Linux 8.0 on an ASUS A7V8X-X

It must have worked for you, because I was thinking that I had a stale
System.map to work with ksymoops, I recompiled the kernel and modules and
the oops were gone.
Unless you really can't be bothered to reply, please tell me whether the
alsa install requires an updated System.map?

Hi there,
I tried to get alsa running with 2.4.22, but I only get unresolved symbols:

Have you compiled your own kernel ?
Is it in /usr/src/linux ?
Is /usr/src/linux a sym-link (to the right location) ?

Has anyone heard of this card or chipset( Envy24ht-s or vt1721 )? It's
only $27 at NewEgg and I was wondering how close it could be to the
M-Audio Revo card. It kinda looks like it is a cheaper version of the
Envy24ht and is similiar to the Envy24pt which has 20bit analog

The slider in my xmms works with OSS but not for OSS emulation over

Hi,
I had everything working fine before (with no apparent system changes)
but somehow the sound stopped working altogether.
I checked all hardware connections, and they are fine. Tried
uninstalling and recompiling and installing alsa again, seemed to work ok.
But the only thing I can get is
1) Soundblaster Live! 5.1 Digital
2) Audio Excel 515M ( Chaintech ) or any other CMI 8738 card with SPDIF
3) Terratec Aureon 5.1 Fun

Hello all,
I'd be grateful for some information on alsa support for soundcards. My
old SB live player 5.1 broke down and now I need a new one. Basically
all I need is a card that has digital spdif output (either coaxial or
optical) and support for ac3 passthrough. I was thinking of a cs46xx

Is this card worht getting used? I mean one can get it for about $50
buck on ebay. How much of this sound system is supported? Is the
breakout box supported? Does AC3 passthrough work? Does SPDIFF work?

What version of Pd are you using? The recent 0.37-test versions have
been producing some alsa error messages on my system. Have you tried
pd -noadc? Have you tried aplay?

I'm using pd 0.36-0.. Using alsa's soundcard 0 (my internal speaker) with
'pd -alsadev 1' reports no problems, so it looks like alsa is working in
general with this version of pd. I also tested with XMMS, which works fine
with alsa and my internal soundcard, but generates error messages using
