Hi all.
I'm having a problem with alsa that I cant seem to work out.
Normal users on my system cannot access /dev/dsp.
Using aplay works fine for all users, but using the play command gives me a
permissions error.

Hi,
I just configured and installed a new 2.6.0 kernel with only alsa sound
support (no oss emulation at all) and it's working great so far.
I'm running a Debian GNU/Linux and using a Creative SBLive!.
My problem is that I can't find a way to load any soundfont to the card.
As you can see, midi i

Hello to everybody,
now my sound card works perfectly at many sampling frequencies, thanks
to the information found in the web page that was suggested me in this
list.
As requested in that web page, I report some details which can be
useful to other people.

yes, today it worked for me the very first time (with Version 1.0.0rc2 and no
additional action or file):
mplayer -ao alsa9:surround51 -channels 6 dvd://1
gives the right sound from 2x front, 2x rear, center and lfe, the only thing I
had to do was changing the plugs of center and lfe (center-pl

Thanks Mark for the answer. Yes, that was a good answer, because i compiled
almost any binary in my old woody installation. I moved that directory, but
some other horrible errors came up.
So i used ...
$ rm -f /usr/bin/gcc
$ ln -s /usr/bin/
hi,
i have just recently switched from the oss drivers to alsa (using the
alsa-packages from debian unstable) for my sb live 5.1 (without live-drive
or any other add-on). installation and configuration worked like a charm,
and playback also works without any problem.
but i have a rather strange (at
Hi all,
Has this issue about Alsa & 2.6.0 corrupting file systems been debugged
and are fixes into Alsa tarballs and/or CVS?

Unlike with former kernels, the alsa-driver doesn't get loaded

Hi,
I found a solution and I'm very surprised. I updated the Java Runtime
Environment from 1.4.2_02 to 1.4.2_03 and now the flashplugin 6.0r79
runs with alsa 1.0.0rc2 !!!
I didn't know that macromedia flash is so java dependent. Shame on
macromedia.

Here are some questions recently posted on the Wiki and I was wondering
if this is a known issue or are these 3 people just unlucky ?
I'm using this combo (vanilla 2.6) and and do not have this problem.
Still distortion: I am using the current alsa drivers (1.0pre2) with
