Just to follow up.. it turns out the bad cards had flash rev 152. I
was able to upload flash rev 151 using a G5 powermac, and the cards
appear to work now.
Still, a Linux flash tool would be extremely useful, anyone know if one exists?
Also is there a easy way to tell from Linux which flash is in
