I may have been wrong about that.

Where should I look?

That kernel is almost 2 years old, even if we found a bug it's way too
old to fix it. Any chance you can try the latest kernel?

Greetings.
Since my last post on the topic, I've been able to get ALSA working on
my system. To start with, I got the cvs drivers working with
2.6.15-nitro3, and then I got the in-kernel drivers working with
2.6.16-nitro_git3. Actual use of the soundcard is fine in most cases -
some formats 'lock'
One more detail: kernel is 2.6.8-2-k7.

There they go, Lee.
I still have kernel 2.6.12-1.1456_FC4smp installed.
If I boot using it, the devices do appear (/dev/dsp2, /dev/audio2).

Thanks for the reply. I take it that means something like "mpg321 -o

Hi, Lee
I did not test with 2.6.16. I am using Linux version 2.6.15-1.1833_FC4smp,
from Fedora core 4.
What I know is that snd-bt87x works in kernel 2.6.12.
It does not work in kernels, 2.6.13, 2.614, and 2.6.15.
There is no entry in /proc/asound/cards for card 2 using these kernel
versions, as y

I've struggled a couple of days, trying to get my new Tascam US-122
external USB sound card working on Debian etch.
On another list it was suggested that I should use a `nrpacks=1'
argument to the snd_usb_usx2y module when using the US-122, so I have
specified that using modconf.

Hi,
Alsa module snd-bt87x is broken since kernel 2.6.13.
It works in kernel 2.6.12. After that, /dev/dsp2 and
/dev/audio2 are no longer created, although the module is
loaded with no error at all (it does not matter if "load_all"
is being used or not).
My modprobe.cond (fedora 4) is below:

Hi,I am a novice linux user. I have a Dell Inspiron 1705. It has a Intel 945 board with Sigmatel codec (STAC9200 as reported by alsa). I run Debian Unstable in my laptop. I installed alsa-1.0.10-3. But it gives silence output. I downloaded the latest alsa current release (

What you're pointing to looks like it has an ALC655 rather than a 665.
I've just recently got an ALC650 to work with spdif out:
