The BCD3000 manual says that it works in OS X without a separate driver.
This means that it's class compliant and should work in Linux, too.

That is, 0.25 s of sound at normal pitch, then 0.75 s of silence?
Is it different with 2/4/6 channels (the "-c" parameter)?

Under Fedora 7 with the newest kernel, I get ~ 0.25 samples every ~
0.75 sec. on the main output. It sounds something like a skipping CD.

When I use ioctl(fd,MIXER_WRITE(SOUND_MIXER_PCM),&volume) on
/dev/mixer using the snd-mixer-oss driver I'm finding that it sets the
front-left channel correctly, but always sets the front-right to 0.
Is this a configuration issue?
