I am deciding to buy an ESI ESP1010 Audio Interface, from the small
amount of information I've found on the net I see it's supported by ALSA
but as far as I've found out the headphones ports weren't working and
neither were the first two input (with the mic preamps)

Thanks for the answer. Do you know of any similar supported cards? What I
need is a 2 in (Line in, Mic preamp is optional , so is Hi-Z), 4 out
interface that is not very expensive.

I just wanted to check to see if the E-MU 040 USB Soundcard is supported by
ALSA? I checked the soundcard matrix but it wasn't mentioned there and my
google-fu seems to have failed me :)

I have an Echo Audio MiaMIDI as well as an onboard card and I also
want to be able to run both cards at the same time with jack. How do
you set the cards to both run off the same crystal?
