Sorry, but the (non-alsa) mailing lists and forums are full of (not newbie)
users, who failed to get thier sound card to work in the first place (whitout
dmix). I never used Windows and I'm happy with Linux, but this is *definitly*
a thing to work on.

I have a "Genius Sound Amker Value 5.1", which I just bought as a cheap midi
interface card. Everythings seems to load fine and looks good, but wether in
kaconnect nor in qjackctl I can connect a the midi input to a softsynth. The
line shorly appears and vanishes immediatly ans nothing happ

I found some others having similiar problems. In the CMedia forums it is
rumored that this problem ist related between the NForce chipset and the
CMedia chip.
Could anyone of the more experienced alsa devs give me some hints where to
look or what to try to find ou
